Take a deep breath... |
![]()
Had a lovely dinner last night with the fabulous men behind Slow London and Career Shifters. (Check them out.)
The first encouraging us to slow down and enjoy life.
The second - work wise at least - helping us to find out how.
It was a good dinner.
Quite like therapy for me as I am usually running round like a mad woman.
Sometimes it is good to stop and reflect though.
A wise man once said:
"Happiness is as a butterfly which, when pursued, is always beyond our grasp, but which if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you."
Might have a little sit down in the garden... as soon as I have finished a couple of things...
Have brilliant weekends and an entertaining red nose day!

Ooooh that snuck up... |
![]()
Well - I guess it didn't.
I have been passing the card shops, flower shops, chocolate shops etc all week with their massive signage and a profusion of pastel colours.
But - clearly - have done nothing about it.
So once again, I am at the last minute gift phase - and about to brave something I haven't before...
I am going to off-set some carbon on my parents behalf.
People get goats and things as presents so why not a bit of - erm - being nice to the planet?
Will see if it goes down well... and get a card as well just in case in doesn't!
Actually, come to think of it, I still have some left over Christmas ones I could adapt.
She's going to kill me....

Maybe you tried 'monitor wars' after yesterday's blog but what about... |
![]()
None, nada.
It's worth a thought.
Not only does it save money and the environment but is there a funny video on the site! Plus - 5 Daily Mail readers gave it a go and 3 said they wont go back to washing their hair.
Intriguing.
I ran out of shampoo this morning and was contemplating getting some more.
I find running out of products very upsetting. Boots is a terrible ethical mine-field and the best environmentally friendly ones are more easily purchased following a lottery success.
So - is using none the answer?
Upsettingly, as a blonde (ok 'blonde'), the 2 ladies in the test who hated the experience had light hair and the 3 who loved it had dark.
But a group of 5 is hardly conclusive - and - hair is very particular. So I guess it may be something to just try out. And you should try everything once, right...?
Hmmm - might mull it over first. Good luck if you give it a go though. Let me know if it works!
If not - I guess there is always the Britney option...

We get the climate change bill today.
But, don't fear, we can still have fun... |
![]()
Brilliant, brilliant.
The Big Ask campaign demanded a climate change bill and a climate change bill is what we got. (Woo hoo - people power.)
But - while the proposed targets of 60% cuts in CO2 by 2050 are a fantastic start some suggest they are not enough.
Regardless, while our politicians fight it out to look the greenest there is no reason why we can't help out with a series of entertaining pursuits.
So....
Entertaining environmentally friendly game 1:
Monitor wars
It's pretty simple. Challenge a colleague to see who can turn off the most monitors in one day round your office.
- If you see one on. You turn it off. Receive 1 point.
- If you leave yours on and your opponent turns it off. They receive 10 points.
You can also add additional points for braving the monitors of surly bosses, the bloke/lady you are secretly in love with/those in neighbouring offices... etc
Oh and the monitors have to have been left on.
You can't turn them on just so you can turn them off!!!
Should be fun. (Easily pleased)
Ahhh, now I am upset I am working from home today.... Actually that reminds me. I had better get up!
Have a brilliant day. Let me know if it works.

as a cloud; That floats on high o'er vales and hills, When all at once I saw a crowd, A host, of golden daffodils... |
![]()
Or - technically - I wandered with my mate Nicola, o'er some of Hyde Park discussing whether it is possible for anyone other than Cameron Diaz to look good in a wet suit.*
But - we did come across daffodils!
And they looked stunning.
Unfortunately they are here too early due to the unseasonably high temperatures.
But - as a plus - at least we have a plethora of them to give to the wonderful ladies who brought us into the world on Mothering sunday.
Not only are they UK grown but a bunch generally costs no more than a pound.
Bargain.
Anyhow - hope you had fun too in that gorgeous sunshine!

*Certainly not the rather alarming individual above!

This section will be a daily, well - Monday to Friday daily, editorial. (Have to keep some time aside to keep up the ritual wine drinking / dancing as if being chased by bees.)
I promise to make it my mission to investigate something each day on exciting forays to find new stuff, fun stuff, ethical stuff and anything involving break dancing men with extremely toned physiques.
Let me know if you think of something I should go and visit or if you have any great ideas or information. (Any dodgy suggestions will be politely declined... or not so politely, depending entirely on what they are!)
For today, though, please just have a look below to find out how this whole thing came about. I hope that you are having a lovely morning.
See you tomorrow,

Background to This is not my...
![]() |
What is this site all about?
Well, as all good ventures do, it started in the pub with the ominous words "I know, why don't we...?" |
![]()
What was different, though, was that it still seemed like a good plan in the morning (and somewhat less injurious than trying out extreme ironing, the other suggestion...)
Anyway - once again we had been supping beers and putting the world to rights when someone mentioned the unmentionable, despite our disaffection with the state of the world, none of us was actually doing anything positive to change it.
Whether this was complacency or apathy, who knows - but we were definitely leaving it to others to make decisions and take action for us on issues about which we felt strongly.
We live in a free society, but often things seem to happen as a fait accompli. The war in Iraq, ID cards, the fact that we will eventually succumb to watching some of Big Brother no matter how hard we try...
And we just go along with it. But that is ok, right? I mean, we aren't exactly encouraging the abuse of others - are we?
Ok - so maybe my new top might have been made under less-than-perfect conditions and I suppose that means I am supporting those conditions, but - I have to buy something to wear, so what other choice do I have?
And that was the problem. What - and where - are the choices?
So we decided to investigate. Surely in this free society we have other options; we just need to know how to find them.
So we went online. There are some great directories already for ethical and/or environmentally friendly products, but for us these didn't go far enough. We were on a bit of a roll and decided that these products deserved more active promotion.
We wanted to make as many people as possible aware of the practical things they can do to live life in a better way.
![]()
So on this site we will provide information about easy, positive and ethical consumer choices. These are choices that won’t necessarily cost you more, either.
In our directories you will find environmentally friendly and ethical companies and products across the following categories:
Clothes
Energy
Food and Drink
Health and Beauty
Home and Garden
Office
Recycling
Restaurants
You will also find plenty more to lure you back to the site on a regular basis. So come back to have a wee look.
Plus we will be working on video's, events and curious antics to keep important issues in the public eye – and provide us with much entertainment and amusement at the same time.
Give us a shout if you want to get involved!
Anyhow - take a look. Explore… investigate… probe away.
We hope you like it; we hope you use it.
