Man alive. Where did the first half of the year go...? |
![]()
So many plans to do so many things and the time has just flown!
Ollie, Lara and I are, though, spending today in a massive plotting session to fine tune details on a load of This is not my mischief making for the summer.
Fun.
Just as soon as my head stops reeling.
Had my bands first gig last night. Which was amazing. (If a little frightening for La's parents who turned up - bless them - but lasted a sum total of two minutes.)
Nice to get out of the comfort zone every once in a while though.
As Nietzsche once said:*
"Believe me. The secret of reaping the greatest fruitfulness and the greatest enjoyment from life is to live dangerously!"
Ok - so it might not have been living quite that dangerously (no Russian roulette/base jumping/sword eating occured) but it was great to do something exhilarating.
Woo hoo.
Anyhow - hope that you all have wonderful, crazy weekends and get up to loads of things you always wanted to!

*Ha ha - always wanted to drop in a line like that. Such a ****.

31/05/07 - What a beautiful day
|
The sun is shining. The birds are singing and... |

we are getting closer and closer to Eco labelling!
Woo hoo! (Go on it's a BIT exciting isn't it?)
Ah - many are the dilemmas of the humble shopping trip. Local v organic. Home made v affordable. Fairftrade v made by underpriviledged Lithuanian fireman with bladder infections etc
But eco-labelling will at least go some way to helping us make better choices and be something that suppliers will want to improve upon.
Brilliant!
Anyhow the Carbon Trust are piloting a scheme so we shall see how it goes I guess.
If you happen to have products you wish to be included in such a pilot you have until tmrw to get in touch with them so get your skates on. (Even if you don't, their site has soothing waterfall noises so have a listen if you are having a stressful moment!)
Fingers crossed.
Have a fabulous day.

30/05/07 - A little bit of action
|
At home. Or in your pants... |
![]()
Got a few emails to rifle through this morning and wanted to share.
First up, a global petition from Avaatz to ask the G8 (specifically the slightly less keen than the other) members to take strong action to avert climate change at their next summit in June. Sign up here without even getting off your couch/chair/whatever you happen to be sitting on.
And secondly - one about running around in your pants.
Of course.
Pants to Poverty are hitting the streets again and want loads of people to support them.
All you have to do is get in touch, get some pants and run about opposite parliament.
What could be easier?
Go get em!

29/05/07 - Not sure we managed the reduce.
|
Or the reuse for that matter.
But by god there was recycling...! |
![]()
Had a few people over on Sat for a bbq.*
And - it would be fair to say - a few beers were drunk.
Which was great but did mean that, not only did I physically stick to the kitchen floor the following morning (nice) but there were a few cans lurking about the place.
Quite a few.
So - since we had clearly failed on the first of the three R's (reduce, reuse, recycle) and weren't feeling creative enough for the second - we threw ourselves in to number three. Even going so far as furkling in the bin for some (I was feeling keen and had located some rubber gloves).
But it was important that we did because "Recycling of aluminum cans saves 95% of the energy required to make the same amount of aluminum from its virgin source. One ton of recycled aluminum saves 14,000 kilowatt hours (Kwh) of energy, 40 barrels of oil, 238 million Btu's of energy, and 10 cubic yards of landfill space." (Off the top of my head...)
So there you go.
Get those marigolds out and make sure you don't throw them away!
Hope you had fabulous bank holidays too.
Susie xx
*Well technically not so much a bbq as a 'grilling in the oven'... well it was raining! And - if we are being totally honest - we may have got so excited about the new pink retro bbq that we forgot to get any gas for it...

This section will be a daily, well - Monday to Friday daily, editorial. (Have to keep some time aside to keep up the ritual wine drinking / dancing as if being chased by bees.)
I promise to make it my mission to investigate something each day on exciting forays to find new stuff, fun stuff, ethical stuff and anything involving break dancing men with extremely toned physiques.
Let me know if you think of something I should go and visit or if you have any great ideas or information. (Any dodgy suggestions will be politely declined... or not so politely, depending entirely on what they are!)
For today, though, please just have a look below to find out how this whole thing came about. I hope that you are having a lovely morning.
See you tomorrow,
Susie x

Background to This is not my...
![]() |
What is this site all about?
Well, as all good ventures do, it started in the pub with the ominous words "I know, why don't we...?" |
![]()
What was different, though, was that it still seemed like a good plan in the morning (and somewhat less injurious than trying out extreme ironing, the other suggestion...)
Anyway - once again we had been supping beers and putting the world to rights when someone mentioned the unmentionable, despite our disaffection with the state of the world, none of us was actually doing anything positive to change it.
Whether this was complacency or apathy, who knows - but we were definitely leaving it to others to make decisions and take action for us on issues about which we felt strongly.
We live in a free society, but often things seem to happen as a fait accompli. The war in Iraq, ID cards, the fact that we will eventually succumb to watching some of Big Brother no matter how hard we try...
And we just go along with it. But that is ok, right? I mean, we aren't exactly encouraging the abuse of others - are we?
Ok - so maybe my new top might have been made under less-than-perfect conditions and I suppose that means I am supporting those conditions, but - I have to buy something to wear, so what other choice do I have?
And that was the problem. What - and where - are the choices?
So we decided to investigate. Surely in this free society we have other options; we just need to know how to find them.
So we went online. There are some great directories already for ethical and/or environmentally friendly products, but for us these didn't go far enough. We were on a bit of a roll and decided that these products deserved more active promotion.
We wanted to make as many people as possible aware of the practical things they can do to live life in a better way.

So on this site we will provide information about easy, positive and ethical consumer choices. These are choices that won’t necessarily cost you more, either.
In our directories you will find environmentally friendly and ethical companies and products across the following categories:
Clothes
Energy
Food and Drink
Health and Beauty
Home and Garden
Office
Recycling
Restaurants
You will also find plenty more to lure you back to the site on a regular basis. So come back to have a wee look.
Plus we will be working on video's, events and curious antics to keep important issues in the public eye – and provide us with much entertainment and amusement at the same time.
Give us a shout if you want to get involved!
Anyhow - take a look. Explore… investigate… probe away.
We hope you like it; we hope you use it.
