if only it had stopped there... |

Ah dear.
Felt more attractive in my time.
The twisted ankle of yesterday has swollen into something that even Jabba the Hut would wince at.
It swooped past cankle up the shin and I have been forced into inactivity before it encompasses my entire body.
Not pretty.
But - as a plus - it does give me the opportunity to do a much needed and long overdue update on all of the directories on here.
We have found some great new companies and products so watch out for all of those on Monday.
In the meantime though enjoy that sunshine!
If you are bored there are loads of free things going on btw.
The Scoop and Broadgate Arena both have outdoor big screen films and there is shed loads of free music and events all over town.
I would go on about them but I left the details somewhere in the house and am too lazy (and pained - obviously - cue violin music) to track them down.
Ah well - whichever way - have a good one! x

but there's always a silver lining... |

Naturally after being smug about not driving in yesterday's rambling... I twisted my ankle.
So it has to be a taxi to work.*
Grrr
(It is now - officially - the ugliest thing I have ever seen. And - sadly - attached to my leg.)
As a plus, though, I did save water and energy by having a much shorter shower than usual.
And - much more excitingly - I get crutches later on today.
So much fun.
As everyone knows, crutches are a fine prop as far as attracting young men is concerned.
Either you look delicate and in need of aid (aka they realise they can corner you) or - if things aren't going well - you can trip them up when they try to get away.
Brilliant.
I see a night out in order...

Well - if you have one... |
![]()
I keep debating getting mine back off my friend but still haven't got round to it.
It's easy to put off as I only have a ten minute train ride to work and tend to walk everywhere in town. Even so, there are times when it would be great to hop somewhere further a field without having to brave the London underground.
Especially now the summer is here.
If you are pondering the same, you might be interested in the Sustrans 'Change your world' site where you can win wheels of your own.
Just got an email highlighting their 'swap a car journey' initiative which takes place in the first week of July.
Had a quick check in my diary and ascertained that I wont actually be going in a car in the first week of July.
Which makes it trickier.
Might have to sign up to test drive something just so I can cancel it and walk the route I could have taken.
Hmmm
Should giving something up be so hard...?
Luckily - there is always 'Lights out London' coming up on the 21st June and I do tend to put lights on of an evening.
Woo hoo.
Anyhow - late for work and rambling so shall potter off.
Enjoy the sunshine x

for a goat... |
![]()
But sadly the garden (small bit of concrete with two waning pot plants) wouldn't really be ideal.
Having something that eats anything on the premises, though, would be quite handy.
Came home this weekend to an intriguing smell. So pungent, in fact, that it made my eyes water.
Not good.
As avid recyclers (or people who put the recycling in the corner of the kitchen for weeks) we don't need to empty the bin much.
Usually this is great but, in the summer (and if the bin lid has been left slightly ajar) it can cause problems.
My Dad was staying and hit upon a solution: "Well we don't have any waste at home because I just eat it all."
Ideal if you have a stomach that can digest as much as him, the aforementioned goat or that bloke who eats metal but possibly not for those of us with taste buds.
Which is why I am absolutely definitely this time going to get round to buying a kitchen composter.
It'll be brilliant not only for avoiding horrific smells but as we can use the compost on the two struggling pot plants and stop my mother sending us fertilizer from home.
(The tub of sheep poo she gave us last year was one of the more unexpected gifts I have ever received.)
Anyhow - suppose I'd best get ordering and up and at the week. Have a lovely one.

This section will be a daily, well - Monday to Friday daily, editorial. (Have to keep some time aside to keep up the ritual wine drinking / dancing as if being chased by bees.)
I promise to make it my mission to investigate something each day on exciting forays to find new stuff, fun stuff, ethical stuff and anything involving break dancing men with extremely toned physiques.
Let me know if you think of something I should go and visit or if you have any great ideas or information. (Any dodgy suggestions will be politely declined... or not so politely, depending entirely on what they are!)
For today, though, please just have a look below to find out how this whole thing came about. I hope that you are having a lovely morning.
See you tomorrow,

Background to This is not my...
![]() |
What is this site all about?
Well, as all good ventures do, it started in the pub with the ominous words "I know, why don't we...?" |
![]()
What was different, though, was that it still seemed like a good plan in the morning (and somewhat less injurious than trying out extreme ironing, the other suggestion...)
Anyway - once again we had been supping beers and putting the world to rights when someone mentioned the unmentionable, despite our disaffection with the state of the world, none of us was actually doing anything positive to change it.
Whether this was complacency or apathy, who knows - but we were definitely leaving it to others to make decisions and take action for us on issues about which we felt strongly.
We live in a free society, but often things seem to happen as a fait accompli. The war in Iraq, ID cards, the fact that we will eventually succumb to watching some of Big Brother no matter how hard we try...
And we just go along with it. But that is ok, right? I mean, we aren't exactly encouraging the abuse of others - are we?
Ok - so maybe my new top might have been made under less-than-perfect conditions and I suppose that means I am supporting those conditions, but - I have to buy something to wear, so what other choice do I have?
And that was the problem. What - and where - are the choices?
So we decided to investigate. Surely in this free society we have other options; we just need to know how to find them.
So we went online. There are some great directories already for ethical and/or environmentally friendly products, but for us these didn't go far enough. We were on a bit of a roll and decided that these products deserved more active promotion.
We wanted to make as many people as possible aware of the practical things they can do to live life in a better way.

So on this site we will provide information about easy, positive and ethical consumer choices. These are choices that won’t necessarily cost you more, either.
In our directories you will find environmentally friendly and ethical companies and products across the following categories:
Clothes
Energy
Food and Drink
Health and Beauty
Home and Garden
Office
Recycling
Restaurants
You will also find plenty more to lure you back to the site on a regular basis. So come back to have a wee look.
Plus we will be working on video's, events and curious antics to keep important issues in the public eye – and provide us with much entertainment and amusement at the same time.
Give us a shout if you want to get involved!
Anyhow - take a look. Explore… investigate… probe away.
We hope you like it; we hope you use it.
