Fact

This is not my... Quote

Look at a stone cutter hammering away at his rock, perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it. Yet at the hundred-and-first blow it will split in two, and I know it was not the last blow that did it, but all that had gone before.

This is not my... Week 45 07

16/11/07 - Bring on the

15/11/07 - Really

14/11/07 - Ooo la la

12/11/07 - Falling apart

Previous weeks

16/11/07 - Bring on the

SUN...!

Such beautiful crisp days.

Leading straight on into early nights and the opportunity to snuggle up under duvets and sleep for hours (the novelty probably wont last through January)!

But there is a terrible problem......

You don't half start to look pale.

As an fervent sun worshiper, this is trial.

But - thankfully - there is an answer.

Oh yes - ladies and gentlemen - the eco fake tan!

Woo hoo

(In the directory on the left there are quite a few shops with it - Nacharel, Liz Earl etc so have a scoot around.)

Brilliant.

Or I guess you could just dab a fair trade tea bag on your head...?

Anyhow - whichever way - best be off tyo make the most of the sun shine while it is here.

Have a good weekend!

15/11/07 - Really

It's good to talk...

Some crazy goings on around here have highlighted the power of communication.

Wont go into it but if you don't say something - no matter how obvious it is to you - there is always a chance that others concerned wont have a clue.

Which is exactly the same with politicians.

If they don't know what we want then it is kind of hard for them to work on our behalf. So - if you are really concerned about something, or have a genius idea - it might be worth sharing it.

Anyhow - in case you don't know - it is super easy to find your MP's contact details on theyworkforyou.com so drop them a line if you do.

Right - best embark upon a day of frank and open discussion.

Will let you know how many friends I have left at the end!

14/11/07 - Ooo la la

Bring on the trains...

Woo hoo.

The new high speed Eurostar has finally arrived.

2 hours 15 mins to Paris. Oooh la la indeed!

Have to get to Geneva next year for a 24 ski race (I have only skied for one day in the last 10 years - oh my) and the train will apparently will only take 6 hours.

Which isn't really all that much more and will be a whole load nicer.

Plus - of course - it is more environmentally friendly (according to the Eurostar website 10 x better for the environment in fact).

So there you go.

European city travel made easy.

Bring on the trains!

And the baguettes.

And the Swiss chocolate.

And all other European things.

Like - erm - Lederhosen. (Well - if Snoop can..?)

Have a lovely day.

12/11/07 - Falling apart

at the seams...

Wandering home yesterday I realised that my feet were cold.

Another hole in the shoe. Darn it.

Before embarking on a sad tale of distress and poverty (no shoes for me or Tiny Tim... sniff... sob... etc) - I should probably mention that I could have got new ones a while back but I hate shopping and love all my old clothes.

Which means that I will wear something till it literally falls off.

Like my trainers.

Which - I may have to concede might be a bit past it (the soles are hanging off and the sides barely there any longer).

It therefore leaves the whole issue of... finding some new ones.

Cue: Veja!

The shoes are made of organic cotton, ecological leather and natural rubber.

And they look great.

If potentially quite pricey. (On their website they are displayed ominously in hanging clear bubbles...)

Sadly, though, they are only available in a couple of places in London so I wont get round to finding them for a wee while.

Which means that the trainers are just going to have to hang in there a bit longer!

Hmmm - hope it doesn't rain...

Have a great start to the week.

This Section

This section will be a daily, well - Monday to Friday daily, editorial. (Have to keep some time aside to keep up the ritual wine drinking / dancing as if being chased by bees.)

I promise to make it my mission to investigate something each day on exciting forays to find new stuff, fun stuff, ethical stuff and anything involving break dancing men with extremely toned physiques.

Let me know if you think of something I should go and visit or if you have any great ideas or information. (Any dodgy suggestions will be politely declined... or not so politely, depending entirely on what they are!)

For today, though, please just have a look below to find out how this whole thing came about. I hope that you are having a lovely morning.

See you tomorrow,

Background to This is not my...

Interview Picture

What is this site all about?

Well, as all good ventures do, it started in the pub with the ominous words "I know, why don't we...?"

What was different, though, was that it still seemed like a good plan in the morning (and somewhat less injurious than trying out extreme ironing, the other suggestion...)

Anyway - once again we had been supping beers and putting the world to rights when someone mentioned the unmentionable, despite our disaffection with the state of the world, none of us was actually doing anything positive to change it.

Whether this was complacency or apathy, who knows - but we were definitely leaving it to others to make decisions and take action for us on issues about which we felt strongly.

We live in a free society, but often things seem to happen as a fait accompli. The war in Iraq, ID cards, the fact that we will eventually succumb to watching some of Big Brother no matter how hard we try...

And we just go along with it. But that is ok, right? I mean, we aren't exactly encouraging the abuse of others - are we?

Ok - so maybe my new top might have been made under less-than-perfect conditions and I suppose that means I am supporting those conditions, but - I have to buy something to wear, so what other choice do I have?

And that was the problem. What - and where - are the choices?

So we decided to investigate. Surely in this free society we have other options; we just need to know how to find them.

So we went online. There are some great directories already for ethical and/or environmentally friendly products, but for us these didn't go far enough. We were on a bit of a roll and decided that these products deserved more active promotion.

We wanted to make as many people as possible aware of the practical things they can do to live life in a better way.

The point

So on this site we will provide information about easy, positive and ethical consumer choices. These are choices that won’t necessarily cost you more, either.

In our directories you will find environmentally friendly and ethical companies and products across the following categories:

Baby and Child

Clothes
Energy
Food and Drink
Health and Beauty
Home and Garden
Office
Recycling
Restaurants

Transport
Travel

You will also find plenty more to lure you back to the site on a regular basis. So come back to have a wee look.

Plus we will be working on video's, events and curious antics to keep important issues in the public eye – and provide us with much entertainment and amusement at the same time.

Give us a shout if you want to get involved!

Anyhow - take a look. Explore… investigate… probe away.

We hope you like it; we hope you use it.
