Get to go on the train today.
Yeay!
Love trains.
Perfect way to put some music on your headphones and watch the world go by (bit like watching an elongated version of countryfile... oh yeah - too cool...)
Anyhow - naturally - I bought my tickets before seeing this - but for anyone interested GNER have a £5 one way offer if you buy before the 4 November.
I guess, unless you really don't like the place you are leaving your trip is likely to end up at £10 but still - might be worth a thought if you are planning to travel anywhere in the next 3 months.
(Train travel is roughly two thirds more energy efficient than plane or motor travel - though if you have 3 people in the car then that works out at about the same per person.)
Anyhow - best go and gather my train journey paraphenalia.
Book, music, lunch... (Notepad, binoculars, large mackintosh......)
Hope you have a great weekend!

and all of a sudden it's Movember...! |
![]()
Found that my 'it's more of an excuse to eat chocolate than really a cold' also allowed me to ignore all of the things I should have been doing yesterday in order to head home and get a good 10 hours sleep.
Man - no idea why I don't do that more often.
Anyhow, just crawled out of bed (possibly a tad on the late side again) to find that it is November.
Or - as I have just been reading:
Apparently, three years ago some crazy Aussie's picked up on the genius idea that November sounded much like MOvember - a mo being a local word for a moustache.
As such, they decided that it was the perfect month in which to highlight men's health issues (in particular prostate cancer) and therefore the perfect month to raise money for charity by growing a mo!
Genius.
Anyhow - if you fancy getting a team together to raise a bit of cash or in having an excuse to grow a bit of facial fuzz then check out how to get started here.
Indeed - environmentally it could save a bit on heating too (keeps you warm) and in not shaving (saves on the razor / electricity)! Still - not 100% convinced to do the same with my legs though...
Anyhow - have a great day and guys, bring on the Mo's!

and groggy... |

Me oh my - have a fuggy head.
And for once it is not the result of one too many baby shams.
Yes - the season of runny noses is upon us.
Luckily I am only on a mini-whinge (it's not that bad and means I can pretend I can't hear my boss when she gives me more work to do) but on the way home last night I was on a mission to find soup.
Hmmmmm soup.
The best thing for colds.
So soothing on the throat.
And full of goodness.
And completely impossible to find late last night in Victoria train station.
Damnations!
Anyway - in order to get round this I figured I should just make my own. (In honesty - this is unlikely to actually occur - but I am hoping that my beautiful house mate Kim reads this and might get inspired....)
And so googled this great book.
Covent Garden Soups do a Book of soups for all seasons, making it quite an environmental option; local produce and a cheap way to use up all of your left overs... (Kim...?)
Anyhow - best be off. It appears that my illness (oh woe is me but I shall struggle on bravely) may have resulted in a teeny weeny over sleep...
Have a good one!

the mind... |

Went to the theatre yesterday (daaaarling) which was brilliant.
Despite living in London I hadn't been for ages.
I guess in the summer it is easy to get distracted by sunny outdoor things and now it is dark at 4pm - finding something entertaining to do indoors seems far better.
Anyhow - got me thinking about lectures (obviously).
Usually get to quite a lot in the winter (ok ok - went to 2 last year... but they were very good... with probably enough information for 5 or 6...)
Anyhow, thought I would put up the LSE lecture link in case anyone else is interested. There is one on climate change on the 19th November - oh and actually - a really interesting looking meeting by Campaign against Climate Change on the 8th.
Right - lovely - best be getting a long.
Lots of things to do and absolutely and definitely no getting distracted because I am working from home... Even if my friend is coming for tea.... And I have to practise the Bollywood dance scene for the (as yet unscripted) French pantomime Mon sange et moi..
Have a lovely one!

of the barrel... |

A bit yesterday.
Had a bit of an action packed weekend.
Lots of people in town which was brilliant but totally exhausting.
But after lunch with my Mum yesterday (Kim - still can't thank you enough for buying lunch... and cooking it... and doing the washing up...!) it was all calm.
Myself and the sofa had a bit of a love in but at some point in the evening I got a bit hungry.
And so raided the kitchen...
Half an avacado, weetabix (no milk) and a garlic bread with freezer burn.
Not pretty.
I am not much of a cook (to say the least) but - since toast is such a staple of my diet - it is rare not to have at least some bread somewhere or other.
And - as I debated what freezer burn actually is and what it would do to a dodgy looking garlic bread - I remembered that it is actually more energy efficient to fill your freezer.
So I was failing environmentally and in my bid not to live like a student in the wrong end of my 20's!
So full stocking up to take place today.
Right.
Can you put water on Weetabix...?
Have a good start to the day!

This section will be a daily, well - Monday to Friday daily, editorial. (Have to keep some time aside to keep up the ritual wine drinking / dancing as if being chased by bees.)
I promise to make it my mission to investigate something each day on exciting forays to find new stuff, fun stuff, ethical stuff and anything involving break dancing men with extremely toned physiques.
Let me know if you think of something I should go and visit or if you have any great ideas or information. (Any dodgy suggestions will be politely declined... or not so politely, depending entirely on what they are!)
For today, though, please just have a look below to find out how this whole thing came about. I hope that you are having a lovely morning.
See you tomorrow,

Background to This is not my...
![]() |
What is this site all about?
Well, as all good ventures do, it started in the pub with the ominous words "I know, why don't we...?" |
![]()
What was different, though, was that it still seemed like a good plan in the morning (and somewhat less injurious than trying out extreme ironing, the other suggestion...)
Anyway - once again we had been supping beers and putting the world to rights when someone mentioned the unmentionable, despite our disaffection with the state of the world, none of us was actually doing anything positive to change it.
Whether this was complacency or apathy, who knows - but we were definitely leaving it to others to make decisions and take action for us on issues about which we felt strongly.
We live in a free society, but often things seem to happen as a fait accompli. The war in Iraq, ID cards, the fact that we will eventually succumb to watching some of Big Brother no matter how hard we try...
And we just go along with it. But that is ok, right? I mean, we aren't exactly encouraging the abuse of others - are we?
Ok - so maybe my new top might have been made under less-than-perfect conditions and I suppose that means I am supporting those conditions, but - I have to buy something to wear, so what other choice do I have?
And that was the problem. What - and where - are the choices?
So we decided to investigate. Surely in this free society we have other options; we just need to know how to find them.
So we went online. There are some great directories already for ethical and/or environmentally friendly products, but for us these didn't go far enough. We were on a bit of a roll and decided that these products deserved more active promotion.
We wanted to make as many people as possible aware of the practical things they can do to live life in a better way.
![]()
So on this site we will provide information about easy, positive and ethical consumer choices. These are choices that won’t necessarily cost you more, either.
In our directories you will find environmentally friendly and ethical companies and products across the following categories:
Clothes
Energy
Food and Drink
Health and Beauty
Home and Garden
Office
Recycling
Restaurants
You will also find plenty more to lure you back to the site on a regular basis. So come back to have a wee look.
Plus we will be working on video's, events and curious antics to keep important issues in the public eye – and provide us with much entertainment and amusement at the same time.
Give us a shout if you want to get involved!
Anyhow - take a look. Explore… investigate… probe away.
We hope you like it; we hope you use it.
