But - thankfully - it has been a while since Linford Christie was in the news so 'lunch box' brings back a fairly tame and useful array of links.
Anyhow - I was on a course last week above an amazing vegetarian cafe in Queens Square. I had to run after my class but couldn't resist the temptation to get a spot of takeaway lunch. It came though in (dun nun nun nahhhh) one of those plastic boxes.
Luckily I saw my mother - a lady who is overjoyed to receive useful plastic containers - later that day (which is handy since it is her birthday tmrw....).
But today I am heading back and so taking some Tupperware with me.
The thing is I appear to be a Tupperware snob. Or - more likely - appear to have a childlike urge to find a container with some sort of exciting colour, shape or picture of Thomas the Tank Engine.
Voila - the search for the 'lunch box'.
And there are quite a few.
One useful site seems to be lunchboxesetc.co.uk but I am sure that there are more as well as loads in the shops.
Might add it to the Christmas list. (Probably a bit more realistic than the electric scooter I stuck on there last year!)
Anyway - at the risk of getting in to trouble - all 'lunch box' suggestions will be happily received!
Have an amazing weekend in the sunshine.

On the bright side of life... |

Oooh oil is pricey.
It snuck towards $100 a barrel and so everyone took notice.
Guess the fact that we have had lots of wars over it, people keep saying there isn't much left and that China and India now want it as much as we do doesn't make such a good headline - even though that has been the case for aaaaaaages.
Anyhow - as expensive as it is - as a plus, this may mean that market forces spur the efforts for efficiency and alternative energies a bit faster.
I guess - if we were being negative - there is a teeny weeny danger that this wont happen fast enough and we resort to dirty coal or start wars those nations which have all of the oil but - hey - no point in dwelling!
Right - brilliant - turn the lights off, switch your electricity supplier and get your MP to demand a carbon tax.
The mission is on!

Got sent a link to Green.tv yesterday so getting all excited.
I vaguely remember seeing it a while back but that was before we did the spoof carry on virals (still - thankfully - in post production but not far away) and 'here's us doing stupid stuff while recycling' video's.
It seems that the most of the other entries are a little more serious in nature but since the introduction is by Steve Carrell (of Anchorman fame) there may be some hope!
Anyhow - rushing as always - but if you happen to have "creative short films of any genre to raise awareness of environmental issues" lurking in the bottom of a drawer you may want to check it out.
Have a delightful day.

and being asked three times... |

In a bid to be green I tend to read a lot of things relating to environmental living.
Which then leads to others asking me about anything and everything green.
The strangest questions are about the more extreme measures to stop climate change (sun shields, fake trees, making everyone live in Milton Keynes etc) but more often than not I get asked about the small things.
Such as 'can I recycle this plastic bottle'?
Not the most complex and difficult of querys but probably of more immediate concern to those who are not physicists... or residents of Milton Keynes.
Anyhow - finally - instead of getting distracted by the general ramblings I have remembered to actually highlight something useful instead.
Which is.... the Recycle now site.
Sure many of you have seen it but - if not - you just need to stick your postcode in and it will tell you what you can recycle in your area, when you can doorstep recycle and where your nearest recycling facilities are.
Very handy.
Whether you live in Milton Keynes or not.
Have a lovely day!

So early on a Monday... |
![]()
Oooh it's a trial sometimes.
Up late last night writing the most random pantomime the world has ever seen (got our cast to choose their own parts... so the traditional characters have a few twists... and there's a Vanilla Ice brothel scene....)
Anyhow, needed a good caffeine injection to start the day but - naturally - the cupboard was bare.
Hopped out to the shop to pick some up only to find that there was some fair trade stuff but... it was Nescafe.
Which led to a bit of a debate.
Nescafe make so much non-fair trade that it wouldn't be my brand of choice. But at the same time - perhaps if everyone bought their fair trade variety it would encourage them to buy more...?
Clearly I had to have a coffee to think clearly and thus the purchase was made but it did get me thinking.
Will definitely go back to the all fair trade brands in the future (Clipper, Cafe Direct etc) but for now going to look on Ethiscore (brilliant site which gives companies an ethical rating) to check out how bad my deed was.
Still - nice and awake for sorting out the insulation though (I will - absolutely and definitely - get it sorted this week... I hope...)
Have a lovely day.

This section will be a daily, well - Monday to Friday daily, editorial. (Have to keep some time aside to keep up the ritual wine drinking / dancing as if being chased by bees.)
I promise to make it my mission to investigate something each day on exciting forays to find new stuff, fun stuff, ethical stuff and anything involving break dancing men with extremely toned physiques.
Let me know if you think of something I should go and visit or if you have any great ideas or information. (Any dodgy suggestions will be politely declined... or not so politely, depending entirely on what they are!)
For today, though, please just have a look below to find out how this whole thing came about. I hope that you are having a lovely morning.
See you tomorrow,

Background to This is not my...
![]() |
What is this site all about?
Well, as all good ventures do, it started in the pub with the ominous words "I know, why don't we...?" |
![]()
What was different, though, was that it still seemed like a good plan in the morning (and somewhat less injurious than trying out extreme ironing, the other suggestion...)
Anyway - once again we had been supping beers and putting the world to rights when someone mentioned the unmentionable, despite our disaffection with the state of the world, none of us was actually doing anything positive to change it.
Whether this was complacency or apathy, who knows - but we were definitely leaving it to others to make decisions and take action for us on issues about which we felt strongly.
We live in a free society, but often things seem to happen as a fait accompli. The war in Iraq, ID cards, the fact that we will eventually succumb to watching some of Big Brother no matter how hard we try...
And we just go along with it. But that is ok, right? I mean, we aren't exactly encouraging the abuse of others - are we?
Ok - so maybe my new top might have been made under less-than-perfect conditions and I suppose that means I am supporting those conditions, but - I have to buy something to wear, so what other choice do I have?
And that was the problem. What - and where - are the choices?
So we decided to investigate. Surely in this free society we have other options; we just need to know how to find them.
So we went online. There are some great directories already for ethical and/or environmentally friendly products, but for us these didn't go far enough. We were on a bit of a roll and decided that these products deserved more active promotion.
We wanted to make as many people as possible aware of the practical things they can do to live life in a better way.
![]()
So on this site we will provide information about easy, positive and ethical consumer choices. These are choices that won’t necessarily cost you more, either.
In our directories you will find environmentally friendly and ethical companies and products across the following categories:
Clothes
Energy
Food and Drink
Health and Beauty
Home and Garden
Office
Recycling
Restaurants
You will also find plenty more to lure you back to the site on a regular basis. So come back to have a wee look.
Plus we will be working on video's, events and curious antics to keep important issues in the public eye – and provide us with much entertainment and amusement at the same time.
Give us a shout if you want to get involved!
Anyhow - take a look. Explore… investigate… probe away.
We hope you like it; we hope you use it.
