everyday.... |
![]()
Ollie (co-thisisnotmy conspirator) came round to go through some plans for new and exciting things to do with the site.
Which we did.... in the midst of some general shenanigans.
But we did learn three key things:
1) It is hard to dispose of a dead fox,
2) Child hood favourite 'superman'* is still a classic, and
3) We need help from the experts!
So today - instead of attempting to write anything of any insight (let's face it that rarely works!) - I will direct you instead to the increadibly useful climateactionblogspot... which will in turn direct you to all sorts of other sites....
Notably those regarding the upcoming Bali Climate Conference.
Take a gander.
Anyhow - practically the weekend - woo hoo!
Have a good one.

Slippers!
Been crazy busy all week and so managed to get today working from home. Phew.
So - after a nice energy saving lie in (well if you discount that wasted on the snooze button) I settled down at the computer.
And then it happened.
The heating went off.
Ahh.
It is not too cold yet but I figured that I would need to take immediate action.
It seemed a bit of a waste to turn the heating on just for me (plus in half an hour the laundrette below will start up providing some lovely under floor warmth) but it was starting to get nippy.
My mother is always one for the 'just put on more clothes' maxim (so much so that most of my childhood was spent looking like Kenny) but it is quite hard to type if you put TOO many jumpers on.
And then it came to me.
The slippers.
I got some really, really cosy ones last Christmas and so I am now sitting here in a T-shirt with my toes happy in the belief that they are in their own personal sauna!
Hmmmmm.
Shrinking ice caps - not with this fluffy footwear!
(If you haven't got any and fancy some organic ones, they have some at By Nature.)
Have a lovely toasty day.

21/11/07 - Not quite as fun as Sheryl Crow
![]() |
but Colin's in on it too... |
![]()
Sheryl brought us an all out attack on using too much toilet paper but - in a more genteel English way - Colin Firth is also trying to save the environment with his new shop Eco opening in Chiswick.
Great, not just because of the produce you can get there, but also the advice on making your home more energy efficient.
Anyhow - I mention it particularly as:
1 - It may be worth a look
2 - It will require me to google lots of pictures of Colin Firth
3 - Colin is - basically - a good friend
Ok when I say 'good' it may be a matter of interpretation but I did at least once meet him. About 5 years ago.
I was helping my house mate on a film she was finding extra's for. (She needed a short person last minute and as her panic stricken eyes scanned the living room she spied me innocently lazing in the corner...)
Anyhow - it ended up being a boiling hot day in a massive house made only upsetting by the fact that my costume included the tightest corset known to man and every time I attempted eating anything it was a near death experience.
Right at the end we were back at the trailers when I bumped into the man himself giving someone an autograph (me nearly collapsing from hunger and heat exhaustion - him looking dapper) and when he was asked for another he caught my eye, raising his brow slightly in a look of mock annoyance.
I responded in kind with a faux 'I know - happens all the time' before losing all (exceptionally witty) bravado and pegging it home.
See.
Best mates...
Right - off to work but have a lovely day and get down to the big C's shop!

Nada, niet,nothing... |
![]()
Been on a bit of a rare cleaning and organising drive these last few days.
Which has lead to a spate of 'eating random things from around the house'. (Just leftovers mind - not weird things... like vegetable stock... or an old piece of duster...)
Anyhow - it has cleared out a bit of the fridge but has left the place a bit bare of emergency scavenging items. A dangerous thing with Buy Nothing Day coming up on Sat.
To be fair, this is less of a concern since I will spend half of it with my parents (with the realistic danger it will therefore turn into 'steal things from my parents day') but it is a useful reminder that it can be good to stop and think about spending once in a while.
Obviously, we can't all buy nothing for ever but as the Buy Nothing Day website explains:
"We want people to make a commitment to consuming less, recycling more and challenging companies to clean up and be fair."
Which sounds pretty sensible to me.
Anyhow - thought I would mention it but will probably stock back up in the meantime. It is more energy efficient to have a full freezer after all.... Plus the two biscuits / half a pot of garlic paste might not be the best for Christmas Party hangovers..!
Have a lovely day.

everything crossed... |
![]()
The news was a bit depressing the other day (though to be fair it is hardly the cheeriest of programmes on most days).
The UN secretary general issued some stark warnings on irreversible climate change and explained that the latest IPCC (lots of eminent scientist types from around the world) report showed some of the projected effects for 2020 and 2030 are already happening now.
Boo. Hiss. (Sorry - still in pantomime mode.)
But as a plus:
"The IPCC's economic analyses say that trend can be reversed at reasonable cost. Indeed, it says, there is "much evidence that mitigation actions can result in near-term co-benefits (e.g. improved health due to reduced air pollution)" that may offset costs." - BBC
Hooray.
Guess we will just have to keep everything crossed for some really substantial outcomes from the UN convention on climate change in Bali on 3 December.
There is a mid-convention demonstration in London on the 8 December run by the Campaign against Climate Change if you can make it. (No doubt we will be shamelessly plugging it from now till then!)
Anyhow - whichever way - have a brilliant start to the week.

This section will be a daily, well - Monday to Friday daily, editorial. (Have to keep some time aside to keep up the ritual wine drinking / dancing as if being chased by bees.)
I promise to make it my mission to investigate something each day on exciting forays to find new stuff, fun stuff, ethical stuff and anything involving break dancing men with extremely toned physiques.
Let me know if you think of something I should go and visit or if you have any great ideas or information. (Any dodgy suggestions will be politely declined... or not so politely, depending entirely on what they are!)
For today, though, please just have a look below to find out how this whole thing came about. I hope that you are having a lovely morning.
See you tomorrow,

Background to This is not my...
![]() |
What is this site all about?
Well, as all good ventures do, it started in the pub with the ominous words "I know, why don't we...?" |
![]()
What was different, though, was that it still seemed like a good plan in the morning (and somewhat less injurious than trying out extreme ironing, the other suggestion...)
Anyway - once again we had been supping beers and putting the world to rights when someone mentioned the unmentionable, despite our disaffection with the state of the world, none of us was actually doing anything positive to change it.
Whether this was complacency or apathy, who knows - but we were definitely leaving it to others to make decisions and take action for us on issues about which we felt strongly.
We live in a free society, but often things seem to happen as a fait accompli. The war in Iraq, ID cards, the fact that we will eventually succumb to watching some of Big Brother no matter how hard we try...
And we just go along with it. But that is ok, right? I mean, we aren't exactly encouraging the abuse of others - are we?
Ok - so maybe my new top might have been made under less-than-perfect conditions and I suppose that means I am supporting those conditions, but - I have to buy something to wear, so what other choice do I have?
And that was the problem. What - and where - are the choices?
So we decided to investigate. Surely in this free society we have other options; we just need to know how to find them.
So we went online. There are some great directories already for ethical and/or environmentally friendly products, but for us these didn't go far enough. We were on a bit of a roll and decided that these products deserved more active promotion.
We wanted to make as many people as possible aware of the practical things they can do to live life in a better way.
![]()
So on this site we will provide information about easy, positive and ethical consumer choices. These are choices that won’t necessarily cost you more, either.
In our directories you will find environmentally friendly and ethical companies and products across the following categories:
Clothes
Energy
Food and Drink
Health and Beauty
Home and Garden
Office
Recycling
Restaurants
You will also find plenty more to lure you back to the site on a regular basis. So come back to have a wee look.
Plus we will be working on video's, events and curious antics to keep important issues in the public eye – and provide us with much entertainment and amusement at the same time.
Give us a shout if you want to get involved!
Anyhow - take a look. Explore… investigate… probe away.
We hope you like it; we hope you use it.
