Fact

This is not my... Quote

Look at a stone cutter hammering away at his rock, perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it. Yet at the hundred-and-first blow it will split in two, and I know it was not the last blow that did it, but all that had gone before.

Previous weeks

30/11/07 - Everything is still very difficult

today...

Slept the deepest sleep ever and so struggling to wake up.

Hmmmmm. Nice.

As is the fact that we have once again we have been sent details of great things via the fantastic medium of the interweb.

Therefore, I can avoid having to locate my brain once again and happily direct you to the Carbon Counted site instead. Very handy for anyone looking to reduce theirs.

I do though, promise to investigate all sorts of Christmas themed things over the weekend (when not distracted by carol singing, making ginger bread men and practising how to say 'Ho ho ho' in a series of different accents).

Fun.

Anyhow - whatever you get up to - have a good one and see you later.

29/11/07 - Everything is very difficult

today...

Couldn't sleep last night.

That hasn't happened for ages.

For many years now we have propounded sleep as one of the most energy efficient of pursuits and encouraged people to do as much of it as possible.

And - not wanting to seem hypocritical....

Anyhow - rather than attempting any mental activity of my own I thought I would highlight Mark Watson's - highly entertaining - 'Crap at the Environment' venture.

"Crap At The Environment is an attempt to start a movement of people who are concerned about climate change and environmental damage, yet, until now, have been completely or fairly shit at doing anything about it."

Check it out here on facebook or here on myspace.

Brilliant.

Right - coffee!

Have a good one.

28/11/07 - It's

CHRISTMAS!!!

Well - nearly....

Just back in from a spot of country fresh air and making my way through emails on exciting green Christmas type things.

Will definitely start waffling on about then soon - or the plan to make everyone I know Chutney (poor souls) - but thought I would quickly point out one from Otesha's lovely Liz first.

She is heading out to Bali with a youth delegation to petition for strong action on climate change.

So if you have a minute please help out by signing up here.

Lovely.

Right - best get back to being overly excited about the festive season.

Is 'sorry I was dancing round the kitchen listening to Fairy Tale of New York' a reasonable excuse for being late to work...?

Have a good one!

26/11/07 - Let me in...

I want to watch strictly come dancing...!

Been at my parents in the country for a few days.

A far and distant cry from the fast pace of London town (though the parish council is close to a decision on having a burger van at the Christmas market) but exhausting never the less.

I foolishly offered to help with some house hold chores which - after making my way through the lists of detailed instructions - boiled down mainly to shifting leaves in the garden so the grass doesn't die.

No problem.

Move a few leaves, get a bit of fresh air and be back in for strictly come dancing (Blue Peter presenters were never that hot when I was little)!

Anyhow - the crux of the story is... I am still half way through and very upset they didn't think to plant evergreens (the phrase 'you can do it again next year' was uttered)!

Made me learn two things though.

1 - There is no need to waste money and energy on the gym, and 2 - We should definitely encourage the Government to help Guyana save their rainforest (see Independent article on their offer to put it under the protection of the UK).

It's bleedin hard work!

Right - best get back too it I guess...

Have a lovely start to the week.

This Section

This section will be a daily, well - Monday to Friday daily, editorial. (Have to keep some time aside to keep up the ritual wine drinking / dancing as if being chased by bees.)

I promise to make it my mission to investigate something each day on exciting forays to find new stuff, fun stuff, ethical stuff and anything involving break dancing men with extremely toned physiques.

Let me know if you think of something I should go and visit or if you have any great ideas or information. (Any dodgy suggestions will be politely declined... or not so politely, depending entirely on what they are!)

For today, though, please just have a look below to find out how this whole thing came about. I hope that you are having a lovely morning.

See you tomorrow,

Background to This is not my...

Interview Picture

What is this site all about?

Well, as all good ventures do, it started in the pub with the ominous words "I know, why don't we...?"

What was different, though, was that it still seemed like a good plan in the morning (and somewhat less injurious than trying out extreme ironing, the other suggestion...)

Anyway - once again we had been supping beers and putting the world to rights when someone mentioned the unmentionable, despite our disaffection with the state of the world, none of us was actually doing anything positive to change it.

Whether this was complacency or apathy, who knows - but we were definitely leaving it to others to make decisions and take action for us on issues about which we felt strongly.

We live in a free society, but often things seem to happen as a fait accompli. The war in Iraq, ID cards, the fact that we will eventually succumb to watching some of Big Brother no matter how hard we try...

And we just go along with it. But that is ok, right? I mean, we aren't exactly encouraging the abuse of others - are we?

Ok - so maybe my new top might have been made under less-than-perfect conditions and I suppose that means I am supporting those conditions, but - I have to buy something to wear, so what other choice do I have?

And that was the problem. What - and where - are the choices?

So we decided to investigate. Surely in this free society we have other options; we just need to know how to find them.

So we went online. There are some great directories already for ethical and/or environmentally friendly products, but for us these didn't go far enough. We were on a bit of a roll and decided that these products deserved more active promotion.

We wanted to make as many people as possible aware of the practical things they can do to live life in a better way.

The point

So on this site we will provide information about easy, positive and ethical consumer choices. These are choices that won’t necessarily cost you more, either.

In our directories you will find environmentally friendly and ethical companies and products across the following categories:

Baby and Child

Clothes
Energy
Food and Drink
Health and Beauty
Home and Garden
Office
Recycling
Restaurants

Transport
Travel

You will also find plenty more to lure you back to the site on a regular basis. So come back to have a wee look.

Plus we will be working on video's, events and curious antics to keep important issues in the public eye – and provide us with much entertainment and amusement at the same time.

Give us a shout if you want to get involved!

Anyhow - take a look. Explore… investigate… probe away.

We hope you like it; we hope you use it.
