Countries.
Damnation - certain nations are not playing nicely in the Bali climate talks.
Which isn't good.
So anyhow - the time is nigh for putting on as much pressure as possible.
One easy way we can help is by signing the Avaaz petition (literally takes 30 seconds).
But if you happen to know George Bush, Yasuo Fukuda or Stephen Harper then put in a good word!
Right - bit of that energy saving sleeping in today so will keep it short and sweet but have a good weekend.

Presents... |
![]()
Went to my first carol concert yesterday.
Brilliant.
Little bit of screeching and a spot of mulled wine - what could be better?
Anyhow - it reminded me that Christmas is upon us very soon and there is still that problem of... presents!
Have been meaning to get back to that suggestions list but haven't had chance till now. (Have another wee look if you are stuck for ideas.)
Anyhow - for mine I have gone off the home made chutney plan (want my family to make it through the festive season) and moved on to recycling favourite... Decoupage!
Otherwise known as 'sticking amazing patterns to old furniture and gluing them smooth so it looks like you have painted them with an amazing design'.
Easy.
Maybe?
It is true that last time I played with glue I stuck myself to my shoe for an extended period of time but - hey - how hard can it be...?
Have a good one.

All of a sudden... |
![]()
It's so cold!
Been up at my parents and only just defrosting.
(They appear to have a super power whereby they feel no negative temperatures... now I am all for keeping the heating off but - man - wrapping up like the michelin man does make going to the loo complicated.)
Anyhow - I am assuming that this is the time of year when everyone suddenly realises that central heating is a blessed thing.
Which it is.
But... making sure it is on a timer and on at the right temperature can save loads of energy and pennies.
Which is why the thermostat is such a brilliant invention.
So here is some information I have (diligently of course....) googled on thermostats.
Lovely.
Right - best get out and about I suppose (just located the thermal underwear).
Bring it on!

Where's the fighting spirit...? |
![]()
Just been reading a BBC article on the Bali Climate Conference which explains that Prof. David King, the chief scientific advisor to the Government and Prof. John Schellnhuber, research director of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research gave a speech claiming that we would never hit climate change targets so would have to start preparing for the effects.
Deary me.
Did these men not live through the blitz!
(Ok - they probably didn't... and neither did I... but hey - nit picking...)
I took a very limited number of economics lessons at school and most of these involved reading the paper / seeing if we could climb out of the window without getting caught etc - but the one thing that I do remember is the theory of supply and demand.
If there is a demand for something then it follows that it will be supplied.
Demand and supply thus determine what is produced and keep the current global economic system working.
Now - please excuse the fact that this is an incredibly basic interpretation of the lessons in which I wasn't near a handy exit - but surely if we demand more of the 'good' things and less of the 'bad' things then these will be supplied in their stead?
Also - according to Keynes (I think) if we and our governments start spending more (i.e. on new climate friendly measures) and encouraging business to do so (i.e. by putting a value on the environment) then more money goes in to the economy leading to greater employment.
In the long-term wouldn't this save millions of lives (and our way of life)? And - in the short-term, help to avoid the global recession everyone keeps going on about?
Maybe?
Ah.
If only everything was as simple as my grasp of economics!
Still - whichever way - even more reason to get behind some action on climate change asap.
Right - anyhow - that was all a bit much for me first thing in the morning. Will hasten back to working on the Christmas present list! (Really, honestly, I DO want a composter!)
Hope you had a great weekend,
Susie x

the final countdown... |

No not to Christmas (shockingly).
But to the climate march this Saturday!
For full details check out the Campaign Against Climate Change website but in brief you need to get to Millbank (Westminister tube) by 12pm.
With climate talks still underway in Bali it is a unique opportunity to lend your voice on a day when the eyes of the world are looking at the problems of the environment.
So get down there!
Anyhow - running late as ever so will love you and leave you after one more shameless plug of the:
CLIMATE CHANGE MARCH
SATURDAY
12PM
MILLBANK (WESTMINISTER TUBE)
!!!!!!!
And mentioning that it is our own thisisnotmy Ollie's 30th birthday.
Yes ladies and gentlemen - he is very old indeed.
Happy Birthday though Ols!
(As a special gift he has asked that everyone gets themselves down to the CLIMATE CHANGE MARCH ON SATURDAY, 12PM, MILLBANK (WESTMINISTER TUBE)....)
Hope you are all having a lovely day,

I hadn't noticed... |

It may not be the most delightful day but who cares?
It is now even closer to Christmas!
Woo hoo.
Been looking for more ideas for presents so have a wee look on here. (Course your boyfriend wants a chicken... he just doesn't realise it yet...)
Anyhow - um - what else?
Argh.
Not much to report.
Finished off my upholstery recycling effort (which my mother would call 'a good attempt'... sewing is not a strong point) and - um - chimps are more intelligent than we are.
It is rock n roll crazy round here!
Have a good one.

04/12/07 - Only 20 days to go!

So darnded exciting... |
![]()
You have to love Christmas.
Yes it's commercial but hey - that means presents,
Yes it's exhausting but hey - that means parties, and
Yes it's expensive but hey - erm - actually that is a bit sh*t. But why not surprize your loved ones with 'homemade' gifts this year!
They will be delighted with the thought and effort.... (well - I'm hoping mine are at least!)
Anyhow - after yet another evening spent singing Fairy Tale of New York - and the fact that I am (for once) not late for work - I reckoned it was about time for thisisnotmy to go festive!
So for the rest of the week we will be building a his and hers gift ideas section here.
Fun.
Also - for those not imbued with the Christmas spirit (bah humbugs) Ollie has sent through a video.
Apparently it is the 'Most terrifying video you will ever see' so take a look*.
Anyhow - better go (ho ho ho) but have a fabulous day!
Susie xx
*I haven't actually watched it as I am already convinced about climate change but can confirm that the the man in it does appear quite shockingly pale and looks pretty dangerous with a marker pen...

I dream of things that never were; and ask, why not?" |

What an amazing quote. (Well - hatched version of an amazing quote.)
Honestly, really I was going to investigate all sorts of festive green things... but then I got side tracked dreaming of exciting adventures.
On Friday we were talking about things to do before you are 30 (worryingly close) and slowly the seeds of an idea have been forming.
Not 100% sure how it will turn out or if it will work but hey - that is certainly no reason not to try!
Anyhow - this morning - as well pausing to pray for something positive and concrete to come out of the Bali Climate Conference - check out these guys for a spot of inspiration.
Have a good one!

Jason Lewis - the first man to circumnavigate the globe under his own steam. Took him over 13 years and:
"capsized in two oceans, was chased by a crocodile in
Australia, had two bouts of malaria, surgery for two hernias
and nearly died of blood poisoning 1,300 miles off Hawaii.
He also suffered acute altitude sickness in the Himalayas,
broke both legs when he was hit by a car in Colorado and was
arrested as a spy in Egypt."
Louis Palmer - taking his solar taxi round the world.
"The solar taxi should rekindle hope and a zest for life... and show that every single one of us can take a step towards preserving our planet.”

This section will be a daily, well - Monday to Friday daily, editorial. (Have to keep some time aside to keep up the ritual wine drinking / dancing as if being chased by bees.)
I promise to make it my mission to investigate something each day on exciting forays to find new stuff, fun stuff, ethical stuff and anything involving break dancing men with extremely toned physiques.
Let me know if you think of something I should go and visit or if you have any great ideas or information. (Any dodgy suggestions will be politely declined... or not so politely, depending entirely on what they are!)
For today, though, please just have a look below to find out how this whole thing came about. I hope that you are having a lovely morning.
See you tomorrow,
Susie x

Background to This is not my...
![]() |
What is this site all about?
Well, as all good ventures do, it started in the pub with the ominous words "I know, why don't we...?" |
![]()
What was different, though, was that it still seemed like a good plan in the morning (and somewhat less injurious than trying out extreme ironing, the other suggestion...)
Anyway - once again we had been supping beers and putting the world to rights when someone mentioned the unmentionable, despite our disaffection with the state of the world, none of us was actually doing anything positive to change it.
Whether this was complacency or apathy, who knows - but we were definitely leaving it to others to make decisions and take action for us on issues about which we felt strongly.
We live in a free society, but often things seem to happen as a fait accompli. The war in Iraq, ID cards, the fact that we will eventually succumb to watching some of Big Brother no matter how hard we try...
And we just go along with it. But that is ok, right? I mean, we aren't exactly encouraging the abuse of others - are we?
Ok - so maybe my new top might have been made under less-than-perfect conditions and I suppose that means I am supporting those conditions, but - I have to buy something to wear, so what other choice do I have?
And that was the problem. What - and where - are the choices?
So we decided to investigate. Surely in this free society we have other options; we just need to know how to find them.
So we went online. There are some great directories already for ethical and/or environmentally friendly products, but for us these didn't go far enough. We were on a bit of a roll and decided that these products deserved more active promotion.
We wanted to make as many people as possible aware of the practical things they can do to live life in a better way.
![]()
So on this site we will provide information about easy, positive and ethical consumer choices. These are choices that won’t necessarily cost you more, either.
In our directories you will find environmentally friendly and ethical companies and products across the following categories:
Clothes
Energy
Food and Drink
Health and Beauty
Home and Garden
Office
Recycling
Restaurants
You will also find plenty more to lure you back to the site on a regular basis. So come back to have a wee look.
Plus we will be working on video's, events and curious antics to keep important issues in the public eye – and provide us with much entertainment and amusement at the same time.
Give us a shout if you want to get involved!
Anyhow - take a look. Explore… investigate… probe away.
We hope you like it; we hope you use it.
