This is not my... Quote

Look at a stone cutter hammering away at his rock, perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it. Yet at the hundred-and-first blow it will split in two, and I know it was not the last blow that did it, but all that had gone before.

09/03/07 - In the words of Snap...

"I've got the power!"

Well maybe...

Have to hop off for an electrocardiogram, which records the electric activity of the heart.

Have absolutely no idea what happens or what it means but hoping to find that I'm able to power all sorts of vital equipment. You know - computers/televisions/nail polish dryers etc.

How cool would that be!

(Might start preparing myself now for bitter disappointment.)

Anyhow - have to leave the house at stupidly early o'clock so shan't dawdle.

Have a lovely weekend though x

08/03/07 - Practically the weekend

  And check out the sunshine...!

Fingers crossed it stays.

Lots of opportunity to get out in the fresh air, have a bit of a walk, see some sights, dust off the winter blues etc.

But - on the off chance the fair weather changes there is always... The Ideal Home Show! (9th March - 1st April)

I have a terrible stereotype in my mind about it. Which largely revolves around a perfusion of chintz.

But apparently it is much more modern than all that and - this year - has an eco edge.

Still not 100% convinced that it will lure me in but it is a little intriguing. You never know.

Also going on at the moment is the Redesign exhibition at the Blue Bird on the Kings Road which showcases some of the best designers using sustainable products. (till 25th March)

Might also be worth a wee look. (I think it is free too which is always lovely).

Anyhow - best get on and out into this fabulous day.

I wonder if you get eco-chintz....

07/03/07 - No!

Whatever you do - don't leave me there...

Ahhh Fresh and Wild.

Damn you for being full of so many alluring organic and environmentally friendly products you need to sell a kidney to afford!

I was waiting for a friend yesterday at lunch time and we had arranged to meet there. But she was half an hour late. And - for once - I had managed to bring not only my credit card but a large back pack into town with me.

Which I clearly then more than filled!

It is a great shop. But certainly not a cheap one.

I did though find... (drum roll of anticipation) one of those cleaning cloths that you don't need to use with any washing liquid.

Been coveting it for ages (not for me a gorgeous pair of Jimmy Choo's - no - it's all about the cleaning products..) and finally my dreams have been realised!

Might do a spot of cleaning on Saturday just to check it out. Me oh my. So much excitement for the one week!

Hope you are having just as much of a crazy time... x

06/03/07 - I love trains

But ever so often I wish I had a car...

Take last night for example.

I raced back to Victoria only to miss mine by 2 minutes. Which led to a 28 minute wait for the next.

So I got in some vital shopping and made the most of perusing the magazine racks in W H Smith and - finally - got on the train.

Only to find it stop. 1 minute from my destination. Because something (leaf/newspaper/plaster from someone's bunion) had blown on to the track.

Oh the hell. So close to home, yet so far!

Cars, of course, can break down too. But late on a cold, wet Monday night sitting on the railings they seem pretty appealing.

Luckily for the environment and my bank managers sanity there is no way I can afford one at the moment.

Plus - the news this morning is running a load of stories about air pollution and its death toll.

If I could, though, it would have to be an electric. Or at least a hybrid. (Can't understand how any Londoners can afford the congestion charge if nothing else.)

Also in the news today is the Geneva Motor Show which is host to a new generation of eco-cars. Might spur a new found interest in the motor vehicle.

If you are already be a car lover you might also want to check out a great site on electric/hybrid cars at EV World. Or, with summer round the corner, take a look at the EVT 168 scooter. (No idea how it runs but it looks so cute!)

Anyhow - best be getting along or it'll be my fault that I am late this morning rather than the trains!

Have a lovely day though.

05/03/07 - Much better

All of February it was grey and nasty...

but now - for March - it is... green!

Yep - in the house we have a really handy 'which foods are in season' calendar.

February was month of mushrooms.

Unfortunately, instead of a nice picture of a mushroom feast, there was one of vile grey soup bearing a nasty resemblance to vomit.

Inspirational shot to inspire you to eat seasonal it was not!

For March, though, we get broccoli. Woo hoo.

I LOVE broccoli. (I'm guessing the slightly strange man in the picture does too...?)

Not only is it a super food but - more importantly - it looks a lot nicer in the photo!

Fantastic.

Anyhow - aside from the delights of broccoli I thought I would mention that Ethical Man on this evening. It is Panorama's investigation into living ethically.

Not too sure how easy he found it!

Ah well. Worth a look online for his top tips if nothing else.

Have a great start to the week.

This Section

This section will be a daily, well - Monday to Friday daily, editorial. (Have to keep some time aside to keep up the ritual wine drinking / dancing as if being chased by bees.)

I promise to make it my mission to investigate something each day on exciting forays to find new stuff, fun stuff, ethical stuff and anything involving break dancing men with extremely toned physiques.

Let me know if you think of something I should go and visit or if you have any great ideas or information. (Any dodgy suggestions will be politely declined... or not so politely, depending entirely on what they are!)

For today, though, please just have a look below to find out how this whole thing came about. I hope that you are having a lovely morning.

See you tomorrow,

Background to This is not my...

Interview Picture

What is this site all about?

Well, as all good ventures do, it started in the pub with the ominous words "I know, why don't we...?"

What was different, though, was that it still seemed like a good plan in the morning (and somewhat less injurious than trying out extreme ironing, the other suggestion...)

Anyway - once again we had been supping beers and putting the world to rights when someone mentioned the unmentionable, despite our disaffection with the state of the world, none of us was actually doing anything positive to change it.

Whether this was complacency or apathy, who knows - but we were definitely leaving it to others to make decisions and take action for us on issues about which we felt strongly.

We live in a free society, but often things seem to happen as a fait accompli. The war in Iraq, ID cards, the fact that we will eventually succumb to watching some of Big Brother no matter how hard we try...

And we just go along with it. But that is ok, right? I mean, we aren't exactly encouraging the abuse of others - are we?

Ok - so maybe my new top might have been made under less-than-perfect conditions and I suppose that means I am supporting those conditions, but - I have to buy something to wear, so what other choice do I have?

And that was the problem. What - and where - are the choices?

So we decided to investigate. Surely in this free society we have other options; we just need to know how to find them.

So we went online. There are some great directories already for ethical and/or environmentally friendly products, but for us these didn't go far enough. We were on a bit of a roll and decided that these products deserved more active promotion.

We wanted to make as many people as possible aware of the practical things they can do to live life in a better way.

The point

So on this site we will provide information about easy, positive and ethical consumer choices. These are choices that won’t necessarily cost you more, either.

In our directories you will find environmentally friendly and ethical companies and products across the following categories:

Baby and Child

Clothes
Energy
Food and Drink
Health and Beauty
Home and Garden
Office
Recycling
Restaurants

Transport
Travel

You will also find plenty more to lure you back to the site on a regular basis. So come back to have a wee look.

Plus we will be working on video's, events and curious antics to keep important issues in the public eye – and provide us with much entertainment and amusement at the same time.

Give us a shout if you want to get involved!

Anyhow - take a look. Explore… investigate… probe away.

We hope you like it; we hope you use it.
